Letter to Barker voters

Welcome to my Website!

This Website has been designed to provide information to the constituents of Barker and to give others an insight into the diverse and dynamic electorate I have the honour of representing.

It is also a source of information and is updated regularly so please check back to keep up to date with what the Coalition is doing and what is happening in Barker.

People often ask me why I am a politician and whether I like the job. I respond that I love being in a position where I can help people, listen to their ideas and use them to influence policy making. While in Opposition, I will continue to strive to gain financial grants for the electorate of Barker to ensure we continue to develop economically, socially and environmentally.

It is very satisfying to help people with their problems and I am well supported by 5 permanent staff and some part time help as needed.

It is often my job to advocate to Government Departments and agencies behalf of my constituents, and I do all in my power to help people ensure a fair and appropriate consideration of the issues raised and to achieve the result that they require.

I find it extremely satisfying to secure grants for the Barker community, and while many of these have been abolished by the Rudd Labor Government I strive even harder to ensure that funding is gained for rural and regional organisations throughout Barker.

However, it is the policy development side of the job that really excites me and it is for this reason that I participate in policy committees in Parliament. I take this committee work very seriously and I have initiated and participated in many enquiries.

One of the most rewarding moments of my career was the removal of the Wine Equalisation Tax. I lobbied my colleagues long and hard for this and I was pleased to secure this outcome.

Of late I have taken on the role of bringing Members of Parliament to the River Murray to highlight the urgent need for an infrastructure response to reduced water flows and drought. From Renmark through to the Lower Lakes I have shown my parliamentary colleagues the impact of the state of the River Murray on the communities, businesses and environment of Barker and enabled them to hear first-hand from residents its impact on their lives.

Regards,
